Dengue is an arbovirus causing an acute in-fectious, febrile condition created by one of four antigenically related but distinct serotypes of the virus.
Each serotype provides specific lifetime immunity, and short-term cross-immunity.
All serotypes can cause severe and fatal dis-ease.
Some genetic variants within each serotype appear to be more virulent or have greater epidemic potential. Spread by the (Aedes aegypti) and (sometimes also Aedes albopictus) mosquitoes.
